Shin splints is a common term used to describe pain along the shinbone (tibia).

The tibia is the large bone in the lower leg and the pain is usually felt on the inside of the leg.  This is also know as Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome.  Shin splints are most often seen in athletes or people who participate in activities that involve repetitive impact on the leg, such as running, jumping or playing tennis.  A main contributing factor can be mechanical causes from your lower limb alignment.  This can be very debilitating and can affect people of all ages.
