Our Services

Podiatric Acupuncture is a natural therapeutic method used by podiatrists to treat illnesses of the lower limb to offer pain relief. It has been used to treat numerous podiatric clinical problems, but is also helpful for discomfort.  It involves the insertion of thin & disposable needles into specific pathways or acupoints or trigger points.  The needles promote the release of natural pain relievers called endorphins, which help relieve the discomfort associated with painful conditions.

The number of treatments varies from patient to patient  & depending on the severity of the condition requiring treatment.  It can be used in conditions such as plantarfasciitis & mortons neuroma.

Acupuncture is safe & practically painless, majority of patients experience no issues from the treatment , however some patients may experience bruising, feel faint or feel worn out after a treatment.  Acupuncture works naturally with little or no negative effects.

Keryflex Treatment

Keryflex is a professional nail restoration system now offered at Foot Steps Podiatry.

It is a simple & safe application, that can restore the appearance of unsightly toenails affected by fungus, dystrophy, psoriasis or trauma.

The patented resin creates a flexible, non- porous nail that allows the real nail to grow in a fungal free environment.  The KeryFlex nail bonds to any remaining nail and provides a realistic looking nail during anti-fungal therapies.  It also provides an immediate cosmetic improvement to compliment our photodynamic fungal treatment - PACT Nail Fungus therapy.

KeryFlex is durable and unaffected by acetone, nail polishes or detergents and is a great way to restore confidence in the appearance of your nails whilst you are treating fungal nail conditions.

KeryFlex works by preparing the nail bed with debridement of the nail, the the KeryFlex bond is brushed onto the nail plate and nail bed.  The KeryFlex resin builds up on the nail and allows sculpting and contouring of the nail. The KeryFlex seal is applied after the modelling process is completed and a ultraviolet light hardens the substance within 2 minutes.

The KeryFlex nails have an anti-fungal property, are insoluble in water and are available in different colours to suit the natural nail colour. A polymerisation process bonds the synthetic resin to the nail bed, and even though the resin is extremely string it is very elastic and adjusts to the natural movement of the foot.

If you have nails that you think would benefit from this treatment, contact us today for an appointment on 69621388.

PACT Nail Fungus Therapy

Foot Steps Podiatry are proud to be able to offer you one of the latest technologies for the treatment of ugly toenails.  PACT nail fungus treatment is an easy, cost effective solution for your unsightly nails.

Onychomycosis is a fungal inefection of the nail bed and is estimated to affect up to 1.6 million Australians.  Topical solutions applied daily or weekly can be frustrating and only have a small success rate.  Oral medication is more effective however this is not suitable for all people, and can produce side effects and a typical course could be anywhere from 3-12 months.  Laser therapy uses heat therapy to destroy the fungus, it is effective however very expensive and can be painful.

PACT is Photodynamic Antimicrobial Therapy, it effectively kills of bacteria, viruses & fungi on skin surfaces & toenails. It involves the interaction of light, a photosensitive agent and oxygen to produce a local chemical effect.  This photochemical reaction induces fungal cell death without affecting surrounding tissue as it only targets the fungal elements without destroying healthy nail meaning is 100% safe.

The  nails is prepared by our podiatrists through reduction, either physical &/or chemical reduction depending on the severity of the infection.  A special PACT nail fungus gel is then applied to the nail and left to absorb for 10 minutes, the gel then stains the fungal cells making them sensitive to the light emitted by the scientifically tested PACT LED lamp. The PACT LED lamp is applied for 9.5 minutes penetrating the nail & destroying the fungal cells.  A blue discolouration may remain on the nail after treatment however this will vanish soon after treatment but it rare cases may remain for longer.

The number of PACT treatments required depends on the severity of fungal infections.

As a guide we recommend:

3 x initial treatments in one week

1 x 1 month treatment review

1 x 3 month repeat treatment

3 x initial treatments in one week

1 x 1 month treatment review

5 x 1 month repeat treatment

3 x initial treatments in one week

1 x 2 weeks treatment reviews

11 x 1 month repeat treatments

Please note: Applications of a urea ointment may need to be applied before PACT treatment. Use of a topical anti-fungal application may be required concurrently with your treatment.  Some cases may require prophylactic treatment after cure.

Doppler Ultrasound

Doppler Ultrasound is a non-invasive test that can be used to examine the blood flow by bouncing high frequency acoustic waves (ultrasounds) off red blood cells.

Doppler Ultrasound can be used in multiple conditions however in our practice it is used to assess the vascular status of the legs in our diabetic patients.  This assists in our diabetic assessments so a greater overall assessment can be reported back to the patient and GP.

If you haven’t had a diabetic assessment in the last 12 months call 69621388 for an appointment.
